"LES FABLEURS"
  Musique folk française
         des années 70

Les « FABLEURS » were a French folk group from the 70’s.In medieval French from the 13th century, "fabler"meant "to tell a story".We interpreted old traditional French songs or medieval ones as « Sire Comte, jai viélé »,a song, lyrics & music,by the trouvère Colin Muset,13 th century. In medieval times, most of the works were unsigned.

                                                   « SIRE COMTE"

In that song, Colin Muset claims from the Count the salary he is owed for having played the medieval fiddle before him. Astonishing for this very remote period in history where unions obviously did not exist. But it was not the period as dark as the historians of the 19th century took pleasure in making it believe.

But jongleurs, trouvères and troubadours were more respected than the lower social class like the serves who were slaves. The trouvères composed in the old French language of the north of France(the language of Oil),the troubadours composed in the language of Oc,a roman language,in the south of France which was Occitanie in fact & not yet the Kingdom of France.Have a look at the page "children songs",youll find an Occitan dance song : "Sus la nostra trilha",translated in English & French.Eight million out of sixty-seven million French people, more than ten per cent, still speak Occitan fluently, plus two alpine valleys in Italy and the Val d'Aran in Spain in the Pyrenees although French " democratic" ministers particularly Jules Ferry(19th c.) have done A-NY-T-H-I-N-G  to eradicate this language as the Breton language(Celtic one as Irish,Scottish,Cornish,Welsh) & others.Nowadays, these versatile & well-meaning people very shyly encourage learning these languages.(????)

The "vièle", not to be confused with the « vielle », was the ancestor of the viola da gamba of baroque music and the ancestor of the violin of classical, romantic, contemporary, jazz, folk music. The « vielle » designates the " hurdy-gurdy" from traditional Western & Eastern European music. The medieval fiddle & rebec have their origins in Arabic music. In the Western world & until the third century,we simply ignored how to get a sound by rubbing a bow on a string, according to the "leader" of the group "La Maurache"(Medieval & Renaissance repertoire).
